Ellen Shire is a native New Yorker — born and raised in Manhattan. Ellen comes from a very artistic family. Ellen’s mother was a dancer and a professional artist. Her father, a musician, also painted and sculpted. Her brother is also an artist. Ellen was a former member of the The New York City Ballet, a published author/illustrator of children’s books and a painter.

She has lived and worked extensively in Europe and have exhibited extensively both in Europe and the United States.

Ellen works primarily with oil and acrylic; with an emphasis on abstraction. Her unique experience with dance, music and writing are all influences that inform my work.
